Since August 2025, the scheme has been implementing a City Council resolution to trial the use of selected schools, with a view to assessing how the facilities are being used and, in particular, identifying the factors that need to be taken into account should further areas be opened up.
In addition to the area on the southern Sonnenberg – which is part of the primary school on Jakobstraße and is already partially accessible – the ball sports area at the Marianne-Brandt Secondary School and the basketball court at the secondary school on Hartmannplatz will also be available until the end of the year once daily school activities have finished. This also applies at weekends. No booking is required.
The opening hours and rules of use have been clearly displayed at these venues. In addition to the school sports facilities, there are already numerous play and sports areas throughout the city which, alongside club sports facilities, enable everyone to take part in sporting leisure activities.
