Until mid-May, a total of more than 330 new street trees will be planted, mainly in the south-west of Chemnitz.

While the work in Bahnhofstrasse and Unritzstrasse has already been completed due to construction work, planting is now underway in Neefestrasse. There, 150 trees, mainly lime and ash, will be planted. 26 maple trees will be planted in Winklhofer Strasse and 20 mainly copper rock pears in Hohensteiner Strasse. In Wladimir-Sagorski-Straße, 83 climate-resilient mixed plantings of various species will be planted and in Carl-Hamel-Straße 39 alders (see list for all locations).

The trees will be replanted in existing but empty tree locations. The aim is to enhance street spaces and improve the quality of life in the city.

The work is carried out by gardening and landscaping companies on a contract basis. The maintenance services are contractually secured with the companies for three vegetation periods.

In the course of the planting work, there may be short-term restrictions on road traffic.

The total costs amount to approx. 1 million euros.

If interested, the young trees can be supported with a donation as part of the city's "My tree for Chemnitz" campaign. Further information and the route to the themed city map, where each individual tree can be selected, can be found atwww.chemnitz.de/baumspenden.
