The Philharmonic Orchestra performed in Hamburg

As part of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the orchestra, conducted by Chief Music Director
Benjamin Reiners, presented a highly acclaimed concert featuring the Latvian accordionist Ksenija Sidorova, this year’s ‘Portrait Artist’ at the festival.
The highlight of the evening was the world premiere of Fazıl Say’s Concerto for Accordion and Orchestra, which was composed especially
for Ksenija Sidorova. The programme was rounded off by Wilhelm Stenhammar’s concert overture
‘Excelsior!’ Op. 13 and Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 8.
“This debut at the Elbphilharmonie was a special moment for the Robert Schumann Philharmonic. To perform
to a sold-out hall as part of one of Europe’s most significant music festivals, and to present a world premiere
with an artist such as Ksenija Sidorova impressively demonstrates the Robert Schumann Philharmonic’s artistic influence far beyond Chemnitz,” said Christoph Dittrich, General Director of Theater Chemnitz.
With its successful guest performance at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Robert Schumann Philharmonic Orchestra further emphasised its national presence and continued its tradition of guest performances in renowned concert halls both at home and abroad.
New season
A special season is drawing to a close for Theater Chemnitz, marked by exceptional artistic achievements, a great response from audiences and international renown. Last Saturday, the theatres took their summer break. In total, over 220,000 audience members attended 932 performances, concerts and events during the 2025/2026 season. The Chemnitz Theatres will resume performances at the end of August. The Robert Schumann Philharmonic will kick things off on 23 August with the ‘Chemnitz Picnic Concert’ on the grounds of the Industrial Museum.
This will be followed on 28 August by the grand opening concert on Theaterplatz, complete with fireworks: the opera ensemble, the opera choir and the Robert Schumann Philharmonic Orchestra will present musical highlights from the coming season.
On 5 September, the theatre invites you to its annual season-opening festival, offering a first glimpse of the new season. Shortly afterwards, the musical theatre has a major highlight on the programme: from 19 September, the hit musical “Titanic” will take to the opera house stage.
