Chemnitz 2035 sports development planning - Chemnitz citizens are being asked to participate

Today sees the start of a population survey, the results of which will be incorporated into the Chemnitz 2035 sports development plan. How much exercise do the people of Chemnitz do? What sports or exercise activities do they do? And how satisfied are they with the sports facilities and sports programmes?

Every ten years, the city of Chemnitz initiates such a sports development plan in order to obtain information on the sports and exercise behaviour of the Chemnitz population. On this basis, sports facilities and exercise centres in the city can be further developed in a targeted manner.

Residents aged 16 and over from all districts of Chemnitz - regardless of whether they are active or not - can take part in the survey and play an active role in shaping sports development for the next ten years. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete the survey.

Sport and exercise play an important role in the lives of many people in Chemnitz. Some play a particular sport such as football, athletics or yoga, others like to cycle, do gymnastics or go jogging. In order to be able to pursue these exercise activities, a municipality needs suitable sports facilities as well as exercise rooms and opportunities. These can be sports halls, swimming pools, ice rinks, but also football pitches, cycle paths, skate parks or green spaces in parks.

Over the years, however, how, how much and where people exercise changes. The reasons why people in Chemnitz are active in sport and exercise are also changing and becoming more diverse. Accordingly, the range of sports facilities and exercise areas must be regularly evaluated and adapted if necessary.

This is why the City of Chemnitz Sports Office is currently conducting this study on the sport and exercise behaviour of the Chemnitz population in cooperation with the Chair of Social Science Perspectives of Sport, Exercise and Health Promotion at Chemnitz University of Technology. Not only is the current sports behaviour being determined, but further questions are also being asked, for example about the importance of and satisfaction with the sports facilities and exercise-related offer structures.
