Events organised by the Chemnitz Municipal Music School in July and August

July

Wednesday, 1 July, 6 pm
Musical student exchange between Chemnitz and Kagoshima (Japan)
Venue: Concert Hall of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School, Gerichtsstraße 1
Admission: free

On 1 July, it’s time to say ‘Konnichiwa’ in Chemnitz: a young school band from Kagoshima, Japan, is visiting and enriching the city with a special musical exchange programme. In the concert hall of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School, music lovers can look forward to a joint concert, which will be the highlight of the exchange.

The programme brings together the KaSchmiR band from the Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff Grammar School – comprising six 12-year-old pupils from the Chemnitz Municipal Music School – with the Japanese school band. The young talents from Japan play both wind instruments and drums.

The exchange programme was initiated by the EU-Japan Fest Japan Committee and the City of Chemnitz’s European Capital of Culture 2025 Unit. It is being organised in collaboration with the Chemnitz Municipal Music School and the Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff Gymnasium in Chemnitz. The project promotes international cultural exchange and brings together young people from different continents.

The concert on 1 July, featuring pop and jazz, offers anyone interested the opportunity to experience the results of this cross-border collaboration live.

August

Monday 24 to Friday 28 August
Courtyard concerts at the Chemnitz Municipal Music School
Venue: Courtyard or concert hall of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School, Gerichtsstraße 1
Admission: free

Shortly after the start of the new school year, the Municipal Music School invites you to a series of late-summer concerts. The courtyard concerts provide a platform for ensembles from the various departments and present a varied programme. Performers include the Youth Choir, children from the early music education programme, the Percussion Ensemble, the string band from the Rock/Pop/Jazz department and the Sax-o-Fun ensemble. All of the school’s orchestras will also be performing.

In the event of bad weather, the concerts will take place in the hall of the Municipal Music School.
