The Chemnitz City Council resolved to adopt the 2024 annual financial statements at its meeting today. The resolution officially confirms and transparently discloses the audited results for the 2024 financial year.
The annual financial statements show an overall result of around minus 9.6 million euros for 2024. This result is made up of an ordinary annual result of around minus 6.5 million euros and a special result of around minus 3.1 million euros. For the first time, the income statement thus shows a negative overall result. However, the deficits were fully offset against existing reserves.
The development of trade tax in particular had a positive effect. At the same time, allocations and grants for current purposes are only utilised with a time delay. Non-cash effects, in particular write-ups on investments, also influenced the result.
The financial accounts also show a negative result this year. Cash and cash equivalents decreased by around 8.4 million euros. If long-term financial investments are taken into account, there was an actual decrease of around 48.0 million euros compared to the previous year. The main reason for this is that planned investments were realised with a delay and payments had to be postponed to later years.
The balance sheet of the City of Chemnitz as at 31 December 2024 shows total assets of around 3.6 billion euros. The assets consist mainly of long-term assets such as buildings, roads and investments. Cash and cash equivalents of around 193.1 million euros and receivables of 244.8 million euros are offset by liabilities of around 499.5 million euros. The city's capital position remains largely stable at around 2.2 billion euros.
The annual financial statements were prepared on time in the first half of 2025 and subsequently audited by the Audit Office. The audit did not give rise to any significant objections. The Audit Office issued an unqualified audit opinion and recommended that the City Council approve the annual financial statements.
Following the City Council's decision, the adoption of the annual financial statements will be announced in accordance with local custom. The complete annual financial statements, including the statement of accounts and notes, are then published on www.chemnitz.de and are available for inspection by all citizens.
