Growing fibre crops – trainee project & summer holiday activity

How do flax, hemp and other fibre crops actually grow – and what can you make from them? On our small experimental plot, trainees from the Parks and Gardens Department will demonstrate how sustainable raw materials are produced. With curiosity, enthusiasm and a green thumb, they’re experimenting with various cultivation and care methods. A guided tour full of fascinating insights into plant diversity, craftsmanship and forward thinking!

Only put on your skin what you could also eat. In this course, we’ll be making skincare products that support young skin and are kind to the environment. We’ll be using natural ingredients from the kitchen.

Excursion to the Chemnitz Valley – experience biodiversity on the marsh meadow
Location: Heinersdorf marsh meadow; meet at 3.30 pm in the Botanical Garden car park to organise carpooling

Join us on a roughly two-hour excursion to discover the fascinating natural world of the Chemnitz Valley, a Site of Community Importance (SCI). The focus is on the marsh meadow near Heinersdorf – a valuable habitat that has been preserved and developed through targeted management since the 1990s.
Find out on site how regular mowing helps to promote rare plant species and why this area is of particular importance to the strictly protected dark meadow-knob ant-blue butterfly. Discover the interrelationships between plants, insects and sustainable landscape management, and gain an insight into NABU’s practical nature conservation work.
The excursion offers fascinating insights into ecological relationships, biodiversity and the protection of valuable habitats – right on our doorstep.
Please remember to wear weatherproof clothing and sturdy footwear. There are no toilet facilities available during the excursion.
