Johanneum Academy: Insights into medicine, health and nutrition

Invitation for journalists on 6 April, 10 a.m., Zeisigwaldkliniken Bethanien, and on 8 April, 11 a.m., Bethanien Bildungszentrum für Gesundheitsfachberufe

From Sunday to Friday, 5 to 10 April, the Johanneum Academy is once again offering young people a project week. During the Easter holidays, the 11 to 15-year-old participants of the Johanneum Academy will immerse themselves in the fields of medicine, nutrition and health. In hands-on learning programmes, they discover modern healthcare professions, experience everyday hospital life at first hand and learn how healthy eating really works.

Representatives of the media are also invited to two events:

On Monday, 6 April, the team at Zeisigwaldkliniken Bethanien Chemnitz will open its doors to the young people taking part. They will be given exclusive insights into central areas of the hospital - from admissions to the operating theatres and radiology. After a welcome and an age-appropriate introduction to the various professions in the hospital, they head to the operating theatre with scrubs, canvas and name badges. There, the participants experience the course of an operation - from the preliminary discussion to the recovery room.

Representatives of the media are invited to take part on Monday, 6 April, from 10.30 am. The meeting point is at the central entrance of the Zeisigwaldkliniken Bethanien Chemnitz, Zeisigwaldstraße 101.
As this is a sensitive area of the hospital, it is essential that you register in advance at jugendamt-johanneum(at)stadt-chemnitz.de

On Wednesday, 8 April, everything revolves around nutrition, enjoyment and health. Together with nutritionists, the young people will learn which foods are healthy and taste good. They will learn why breakfast before school is important, how many sugar cubes are in cola or ketchup and how to prepare a balanced meal. The aim is to impart knowledge - without pointing a finger, but with fun and lots of aha moments.

Representatives of the media are invited to attend the event on Wednesday, 8 April at 11 a.m. at the Bethanien Bildungszentrum für Gesundheitsfachberufe Amselsteig 3.

In addition to medicine and nutrition, the programme for the project week also includes exercise, teamwork and creative elements. In this way, the young people experience a varied themed week centred around health and well-being.

"Johanneum" children and youth foundation
The "Johanneum" children's and youth foundation has a long history: it was initiated by Carl Christian Hübner back in 1855 to open up opportunities for children from socially disadvantaged families. When it was re-established in 2002, it became the first legally independent municipal foundation in the city of Chemnitz. Among other things, the foundation supports socially disadvantaged children with educational opportunities, sports and creative activities during their holidays.

The Johanneum Academy is a separate project of the Johanneum Children and Youth Foundation. It provides young people with practical insights into various professional fields, helps them to discover their talents and gain initial experience in real working environments. With strong partners from the region, it creates learning spaces in which children and young people can try out, experience and grow.

The foundation can be supported with donations and endowments in order to provide effective help.
