From Sunday to Friday, 12 to 17 July, the “Johanneum” Children’s and Youth Foundation is once again organising a MINT-Fit Camp during the summer holidays at the Schullandheim, Küchwaldring 26. The camp is aimed specifically at primary school pupils. For one week, they will conduct research, carry out experiments and make discoveries together – supported by regional partners from the worlds of science, education and business. As well as exciting workshops, the programme also includes creative activities, excursions and plenty of shared experiences.
On Monday 13 July at 10.30 am, media representatives are invited to a special event at the M3-Raumbau company ( , Sandweg 39):
In the airbrush workshop, the children will experience how technology and creativity work together. They will design their own motifs and learn in a playful way how to work with colours, air pressure and various materials.
To gain an insight into the project on site, interviews with the children can be arranged in consultation with the supervisors.
On Thursday 16 July at 11.00 am, media representatives are invited to another special event at the camp , taking place at the training centre and the central laboratory of Südsachsen Wasser GmbH, Schneeberger Straße 8:
How is raw water turned into clean drinking water? During an exciting behind-the-scenes tour of the training centre and the central laboratory of Südsachsen Wasser GmbH, the children will learn how the quality of our drinking water is ensured through scientific testing. At the training centre, they will learn about various apprenticeship roles in the utilities sector and gain insights into the fields of electrical engineering and mechatronics. Through electrical engineering workshops and a welding simulation, they will also be able to get hands-on and experience the technology first-hand.
Here too, discussions with the children – in consultation with their carers – are possible to gain an on-site insight into the project.

The camp also offers further highlights, such as experiments relating to energy and the environment at the Saxony Cooperative State University, a visit to the Waldenburg Natural History Museum, a trip to the swimming pool, and numerous creative and sporting activities. The camp concludes with a presentation of the project results together with the parents.
The aim of the camp is to introduce children to a variety of educational opportunities and to spark their curiosity about scientific topics. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
The “Johanneum” Children’s and Youth Foundation
The “Johanneum” Children’s and Youth Foundation looks back on a long history: it was founded as early as 1855 by Carl Christian Hübner to provide opportunities for children from socially disadvantaged families. Following its re-establishment in 2002, it became the first legally independent municipal foundation in the city of Chemnitz.
The foundation supports numerous projects, including the Johanneum Academy. Among other things, it offers educational programmes, sport and creative activities to socially disadvantaged children during the school holidays.
The foundation can be supported through donations and endowments so that it can continue to provide effective assistance.
