At its meeting today, the Chemnitz City Council approved a new fee schedule for the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre. Among other things, this sets out the level of course fees and possible discounts.
The price per teaching unit will be increased moderately from the start of the 2026 winter semester. It will rise from an average of 4.10 euros to an average of 4.30 euros. For example, a basic Italian A1.1 course will cost 136 euros instead of the current 125 euros in the coming winter semester. Discounts remain possible, including for Chemnitz Pass holders, children, school pupils, people with severe disabilities, trainees, students and holders of the Thank You Card or the Saxon Volunteer Card.
There is also a new promotional week each semester, during which a discount of up to 25 per cent can be granted on selected courses. This is intended to attract additional participants and get more people interested in continuing education.
The actual costs per teaching unit, which are used to calculate the course fees, have increased from 8 euros to 12.80 euros. This is partly due to a significant increase in operating and rental costs as well as changes in the financing of individual course programmes. The above-mentioned course fees are made possible by the financial support of the City of Chemnitz and the Free State of Saxony.
The new fee schedule comes into force with the publication of the 2026 winter semester programme and replaces the previous regulation from 2022.
In addition, the City Council has decided to adjust the fee structure for course instructors. The previous fee schedule dates back to 2014 and no longer adequately reflects the development of wages and prices.
In future, a binding minimum fee will be set that is also based on the continuous increase in the statutory minimum wage and the rising cost of living. At the same time, the maximum standard fee per teaching unit will be increased. This is the City of Chemnitz's response to the increasing competition for qualified freelance teachers.
