Great-grandson on the trail of his Jewish family in Chemnitz

Invitation for journalists: on 10 April, 3 pm, Marianne-Brandt-Straße 8

On Friday, 10 April, Gilad Wax, great-grandson of Franz Philipp Schreiber, will visit Chemnitz with his family. From 3 pm, they will visit the Stolpersteine at Marianne-Brandt-Straße 8. These were laid on 6 May 2021 in memory of Franz Philipp Schreiber, his wife Charlotte and his daughter Vera, who did not survive the Holocaust. The Schreiber family's former home is located at the former Platanenstraße 8, now Marianne-Brandt-Straße 8.

Representatives of the media are invited to attend the visit to Marianne-Brandt-Straße 8.

The Schreiber family belonged to a long-established Jewish family of factory owners. Saul Schreiber, Franz Philipp Schreiber's father, lived in Chemnitz from 1874 and was co-owner of the mechanical weaving mill Seidler & Schreiber. In 1910, his son Franz Philipp Schreiber became co-owner. He married Charlotte Bie in Breslau in 1921. The couple had three children: Konrad, Klaus and Vera. Gilad Wax is the grandson of Konrad Schreiber, who was able to emigrate to England in 1939 to save himself from deportation by the National Socialists.

On this day, Gilad Wax visits the Chemnitz Industrial Museum to find out about a planned exhibition on Jewish entrepreneurs. In addition to curator Dr Barbara Waske, he also meets Gisela Strobel from the Friends of the Industrial Museum, who had taken over the sponsorship of one of the Stolpersteine at Marianne-Brandt-Straße 8. Project manager Cornelia Siegel from the City of Chemnitz will accompany the family.
