Event organisers are requested to apply in writing or by email for their events to be classified as ‘rare events’ for 2027 by 31 August 2026 at the latest. This applies in particular to events featuring live music that continue into the night (after 10.00 pm) and thus disturb the peace at night.

Background
In September 2023, Chemnitz City Council adopted a policy on the management of events, with a focus on the city centre (B-129/2023). The plan specifies the number of events in the city centre area which, based on experience, are expected to exceed the generally applicable noise protection guidelines – so-called ‘rare events’.
Accordingly, Chemnitz city centre is divided into the following zones for events (rare events):
- Event Area I – southern city centre: 14 events
- Event Area II – northern city centre: 10 events
- Event Area III – western city centre: 14 events
In the districts not covered by these event zones, a further 14 ‘rare events’ may be scheduled per calendar year.
The concept serves as the basis for action for both the City of Chemnitz and event organisers, with a view to establishing a high-quality events culture in Chemnitz city centre in the medium and long term.
