Question time for residents in the city council

Residents' Question Time is placed on the agenda of the public City Council meeting by the Lord Mayor as an agenda item "Residents' Question Time" if required. During the meeting, the city administration answers questions received from residents. The City of Chemnitz has included corresponding regulations in the main statutes of the City of Chemnitz and the rules of procedure of the City Council of the City of Chemnitz.

Residents of the City of Chemnitz and equivalent persons such as property owners or tradespeople who are not residents of the City of Chemnitz and representatives of citizens' initiatives can submit informal written questions to the Lord Mayor on matters concerning the City of Chemnitz. Questions are not permitted

  • on matters that are to be dealt with in a closed session,
  • on individual personal cases,
  • which are asked repeatedly by the same submitter and have already been answered in previous residents' question and answer sessions,
  • which contain judgements, unobjective statements, insults or expressions of opinion.

As a rule, residents receive a written reply if they have addressed questions to the Lord Mayor. This ensures a prompt and personal response. Answers will only be given in a residents' question time if the relevant requirements are met and this form of answer has been requested.
