Call for applications for expert residents

on behalf of the Social Affairs Committee and the Migration Advisory Board

Do you want to get involved in politics, have your say, keep up to date with what’s going on and play a part in Chemnitz’s affairs?  Then apply now as a qualified resident to participate in local politics for the current electoral term 2024–2029 on the following committees:

  • Social Affairs Committee
  • Migration Advisory Board

    The remit and areas of responsibility of the Social Affairs Committee are set out in
    Section 8(1), No. 5 and paragraph 4, as well as Section 16 of the Main Statutes of the City of Chemnitz.

    The remit and areas of responsibility of the Migration Advisory Board can be found in 
    Section 11 of the Main Statutes of the City of Chemnitz.

     

The following are required for your application:

  • You must possess expertise in the relevant subject areas of the committee to which you are applying
    (Expertise means possessing specialist knowledge and expertise in a specific area of responsibility to be managed by the city)
  • You are a resident of Chemnitz in accordance with Section 10 of the Saxon Municipal Code for the Free State of Saxony (SächsGemO) of Chemnitz, but you do not necessarily have to be a citizen under Section 15 of the SächsGemO
  • You are not an employee of Chemnitz City Council
     

Objectives of participation:

  • Utilising the existing potential of the resident population’s specialist knowledge and expertise for local political activities in the city of Chemnitz
  • to ensure the professional organisation of the city’s policy-making and decision-making processes
  • to put the principle of democracy into practice through the active participation of knowledgeable residents in local issues 


Rights and duties:

  • one of the duties associated with this voluntary role is regular attendance at committee meetings
  • the knowledgeable resident has the right to speak in the committee, as well as the right to speak and vote on the advisory board, and receives an expense allowance for their participation in accordance with the ‘Statutes of the City of Chemnitz on the Remuneration of City Councillors and Other Voluntary Citizens’


Appointment procedure:

  • Applications, using the relevant application form , must be submitted by 30 July 2026 to the City Council Secretariat.stadtrat@stadt-chemnitz.de or by post to the City Council’s administrative office, 09111 Chemnitz, Markt 1, Room 125 (deadline)
  • Application forms can be downloaded from the internet at www.chemnitz.de or via the City Council’s administrative office (Tel.: 488-1541, geschaeftsstelle.stadtrat(at)stadt-chemnitz.de) to be sent by post
  • Review of applications by the administration, in consultation with the political groups
  • Preparation of a draft resolution for the City Council by the administration
  • Preliminary consultation in the Social Affairs Committee or the Migration Advisory Board (where applicable, with a presentation by the candidate)
  • Appointment by election by the City Council
