Adoption mediation

Adoption is the adoption of a child and the legal establishment of a new parent-child relationship.

Adoption mediation is the bringing together of children under the age of 18 and the persons who wish to adopt a child. The best interests of the child are paramount.

Adoption mediation is carried out by the Youth Welfare Office, Social Services Department.

The services include

  • Discreet counselling for parents who wish to give up their child for adoption

  • Informing parents wishing to adopt about the adoption placement process

  • Counselling and assessment of adoption applicants

  • Counselling before, during and after the adoption

  • Counselling and support for stepchild adoption

  • Counselling and support in the mutual search for adoptees and families of origin
