Nature conservation funding from the European Union
Since 2016, the city of Chemnitz has received funding from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) for the maintenance and management of a total of 51.5 hectares of nature conservation meadows via the Agri-environmental and Climate Measures Directive (AUK/2015) as part of the Rural Development Programme for the Free State of Saxony (EPLR) 2014-2020.
The following projects are being implemented and funded:
| Project on grassland | Result |
GL.1 Species-rich grassland - result-orientated remuneration | The implementation of the project "GL.1 Species-rich grassland - result-oriented remuneration" contributed to the preservation of species-rich grassland with a moderately high to very high nature conservation value on the subsidised agricultural land. This also helped to safeguard biodiversity. |
GL.2 Biotope maintenance mowing with aggravation | With the implementation of the project "GL.2 Biotope maintenance mowing with aggravation", a contribution was made to the conservation and development of endangered, valuable grassland habitat and biotope types as well as habitats of specific species in need of protection on the subsidised areas. |
GL.4 Nature conservation-friendly herding and grazing | The realisation of the project "GL.4 Nature conservation-friendly herding and grazing" contributed to the conservation, restoration and development of pastureland areas with high nature conservation value. The preservation and development of species-rich nutrient-poor grassland biotopes, heaths and other open land habitats helped to safeguard biodiversity and contribute to the preservation of the cultural landscape. |
GL.5 Special species-appropriate grassland utilisation | With the implementation of the project "GL.5 Special species-appropriate grassland utilisation", a contribution was made to the conservation of specific species in need of protection through management methods adapted to the individual requirements of the species. It also helped to safeguard biodiversity. |
