New features at the central bus stop

CVAG provides better orientation

Around 30,000 passengers change trains at the central stop every day. This makes it the heart of local public transport in Chemnitz, where all tram and city railway lines as well as a large number of bus lines meet.

The central stop covers an area of around 20,000 square metres between Bahnhofstrasse, Reitbahnstrasse and Rathausstrasse. Passengers have to cross some of these streets to reach the Steige. Due to the heavy use and the large area of the central stop, it is particularly important to organise the transfer of passengers in a targeted manner. In order to bring about an improvement here, CVAG has developed a new signposting system, which is now being implemented.

What is changing at the "Zenti"?

The central stop becomes colourful. The new wayfinding system divides the central stop into four coloured sections to provide passengers with an initial rough orientation. The colours can be seen from a distance, making it easier to recognise the platforms from all directions. At each platform itself, the route relationships to all other platforms are shown so that passengers can orientate themselves as well as possible at all points of the central stop.

In addition, the platform numbers for visually impaired people are displayed in pyramid and Braille above the buttons for the voice output of the digital information displays.

In addition, two digital information pillars - one at the clock and another between the Galerie Roter Turm and the former Kaufhof building - will be installed. In addition to the overview map, these will also display the departures for the entire central station.

With the introduction of the signposting system, CVAG is responding to customer feedback, which indicated a desire for better orientation.

Preparatory measures

In preparation for the measures, night-time cleaning work has already been carried out on the pillars between platforms 2 to 9.

The pillars are now being painted and the signposting system will be installed step by step by the end of the year.
