On 8 April 2025, the NUMIC 2.0 project team organised an eventful information day on transport planning in cooperation with the Georgius-Agricola-Gymnasium Chemnitz.
The aim was to familiarise even the youngest citizens with topics relating to mobility, transport planning and urban development - and to show them that they, too, have a voice and can therefore help shape the city: through citizen participation.

In the morning, around 70 pupils from year 5 embarked on an interactive journey into the world of transport planning. They went through five playful hands-on stations:

  • They compared before and after states of small-scale measures to promote active mobility from NUMIC 1.0,
  • learnt about the individual steps and phases of planning a major infrastructure project - such as the construction of a new tram line - using an 8-metre-long ground sheet,
  • slipped into the role of transport planners and designed their own street space using a true-to-scale model,
  • immersed themselves in planning processes using the example of Konkordiapark with the help of virtual reality and
  • learnt about the work of the Chemnitz Road Safety Association.

The materials relating to the station work were already tested in June 2024 with pupils from Gotthold-Ephraim-Lessing Primary School and the Terra Nova Campus - and (once again) not only made the children's eyes wide open.

In addition, both the ADFC Chemnitz e. V. and the Verkehrswacht supported the information day with a colourful spectrum of thematically appropriate offers - such as a bicycle course, a bicycle simulator or a bicycle check - for all pupils of the grammar school.

To round off the event, the film Urbanized was shown in cooperation with Fahrradkino Chemnitz e. V., which highlights various aspects of urban life in a vivid way.

Overall, the event was a complete success and shows the great interest and positive response to participatory transport planning in Chemnitz - also among younger target groups.
