Educational child and youth protection

Children and young people are exposed to dangers in their development process that are not always clearly recognisable to them or their parents. The aim of youth protection is to inform children and young people, as well as parents, teachers, social workers and educators, about these dangers and to provide suggestions and advice on how such dangers can be averted.

Educational child and youth protection mainly provides and organises services for children, young people, parents, grandparents and other guardians.

In addition to individual counselling and educational offers outside of school, these also include participation in major events, themed leisure activities and cooperation with independent organisations and public institutions.

The programmes are designed to enable young people to protect themselves from harmful influences and to teach them the ability to make critical and decision-making decisions and to take responsibility for themselves and their fellow human beings.

Parents and other guardians can inform themselves and thus better protect children and young people from harmful influences.

In the brochure "Chemnitz macht jung" you will find an overview of projects with information and contacts from page 63 onwards.

The problem of sects

Picture: pict rider / Fotolia

The term "sect" is used colloquially to describe a group that separates or distances itself from large religious communities with its beliefs and has a negative influence on its own members or on society.

The term "conflict-prone religious or ideological group" would be more appropriate here, as it recognises that there can be conflicts both within the group and in the relationship between the group and society. The educational child and youth protection service offers counselling and information on the topic or can refer you to the Protestant contact person for the Chemnitz area.
