The Chemnitz 2025 review in pictures

Indispensable support during the European Capital of Culture year: around 1,300 volunteers were involved in Chemnitz and the region to provide professional support for events, projects and guests of the European Capital of Culture. With great dedication, they ensured that everything ran smoothly, provided information, created encounters and made a decisive contribution to ensuring that art, culture and community could be experienced throughout the Capital of Culture year. After three years of construction, the Garage Campus has been opened. As one of the major intervention areas of Chemnitz 2025, it offers spaces for projects and events for creative people, companies and artists to rent and will remain a place for creativity and culture even after the Capital of Culture year. The European Capital of Culture 2025 was also an urban development project. In a total of 30 intervention areas, places underwent a transformation in very different ways: From the traditional Hartmann factory (visitor centre and headquarters of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH), to a new district park at Pleißenbach and a fairground in Euba, where Christmas markets and village festivals will be held in future.

With the ceremonial inauguration of the new reception pavilion, the Küchwald was given a central contact and information point and also an intervention area for the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. Picture: Philipp Köhler
The intervention area at the Fischweg bridge marks a new rest area for the Chemnitz Valley cycle path. The historic Fischweg bridge, which is over 130 years old, was relocated and incorporated into the design. Picture: Franziska Wöllner
