The city council's decisions from the May meeting

The city council decided yesterday, Wednesday, on the use of funds from the Saxony Fund Act. This includes measures for school building construction and road and bridge construction as well as the use of funds from the lump-sum investment budget.

Municipal heating planning, the concept for the municipal theatres and necessary cost reductions for public transport were also discussed.</p

Measures in road, bridge and school building construction

The city council has approved road, bridge and school building construction measures for implementation in the regional budget. The basis for this is the Saxony Fund Act, with which the Free State of Saxony passes on funds from the nationwide special fund for infrastructure and climate protection to local authorities. For Chemnitz, a total of around 39.2 million euros is available for municipal road and bridge construction and for municipal school building construction until 2036.

Measures for sport, culture, leisure and safety

The city council has decided on measures that will be financed from the lump-sum investment budget for the implementation of the Saxony Fund Act. This is based on funds from the federal government's special fund for infrastructure and climate neutrality, which are passed on to the municipalities via the Free State of Saxony. A total of around 105.8 million euros will be available for Chemnitz from the lump-sum investment budget until 2036. Municipal heating plan adopted by the city of Chemnitz

The Chemnitz City Council has adopted the municipal heating plan for the city of Chemnitz. For the first time, Chemnitz now has a strategic roadmap for a long-term climate-neutral heat supply by 2040 at the latest.</p

City council decides on measures to reduce public transport costs

The city council has approved a package of measures to reduce costs in local public transport. The changes will be implemented with the timetable change in December 2026 and included in the update of the local transport plan, which is currently being prepared. The background to this is the significant increase in public transport costs, including for personnel, energy, fuel and vehicles.</p

City Council adopts concept for municipal theatres and negotiating mandate for new in-house collective agreements

The city council has approved the theatre concept developed by Städtisches Theater Chemnitz gGmbH (STC). This envisages the retention of all of the theatre's divisions and venues while maintaining the size of the STC's workforce. Due to the economic challenge for the STC as well as for the City of Chemnitz as a subsidiser, the City Council has thus paved the way for the establishment of new in-house collective agreements for the Chemnitz Municipal Theatres from 2027.</p

City council adopts new fee schedule for the sports boarding school

The new fee schedule for the City of Chemnitz's sports boarding school adopted yesterday will come into force for the new school year. The adjustment to the fee schedule, which has been in force since 2022, was necessary in particular due to a significant increase in personnel, energy and operating costs.</p

New head of the youth welfare office
