This is what the city council decided today
New financing of the parliamentary groups
The Chemnitz City Council has adopted a new statute on the financing of council parliamentary groups, which will come into force retroactively from 1 January 2026. This creates a clear, transparent and legally secure framework for the work of the city council's political groups. The new statutes set out binding rules on how these funds are provided, used and accounted for. At the same time, the funding system will be reorganised. The amounts for group funding are to be adjusted annually in future.
New fees for the adult education centre
The city council has approved a new fee schedule for the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre. Among other things, this sets out the level of course fees and possible discounts. The price per teaching unit will be increased moderately from the start of the 2026 winter semester. It will rise from an average of 4.10 euros to an average of 4.30 euros. For example, a basic Italian A1.1 course will cost 136 euros instead of the current 125 euros in the coming winter semester. Discounts remain possible, including for Chemnitz Pass holders, children, school pupils, people with severe disabilities, trainees, students and holders of the Thank You Card or the Saxon Volunteer Card. There is also one new campaign week per semester.
New regulations on parking spaces for vehicles and bicycles
Newly adopted bylaws regulate the number of parking spaces required for vehicles and bicycles as well as their design. Among other things, it specifies the type of buildings that generate traffic and how many parking spaces must be provided. These buildings include, for example, residential buildings, office buildings, retail, assembly or sports facilities, churches, schools and daycare centres, hospitals and commercial facilities. Parking spaces can be created in the open air, in carports, garages or underground car parks.
Taxi fares to rise from May 2026
The city council has decided to increase taxi fares in the Chemnitz compulsory travel area from 1 May 2026. The fares will be adjusted in two stages - first from May 2026 and then again from January 2027. The basic fare will initially be increased from the current 4 euros to 4.50 euros. From January 2027, it will rise to 5.20 euros. The kilometre prices will also be adjusted accordingly. In addition, the charges for waiting times will increase slightly.
Expansion of Reinhardtstrasse
Reinhardtstraße between Lessingplatz and Palmstraße is to be completely rebuilt. The approximately 255 metre long section of road on Sonnenberg is to be comprehensively renewed and redesigned. The construction work is being realised together with inetz GmbH and the waste disposal company of the city of Chemnitz. Extensive work is planned on the combined sewer as well as the drinking water, district heating and power lines. As these pipes are located throughout the road, the work will be coordinated with the road construction.

The sports facilities at Heinrich Heine Primary School are to be renovated. The work is scheduled to begin in July 2026 and is expected to be completed by June 2027.
