On 17 August 2024, the Klaffenbach Cultural Park was opened for the Klaffenbach Heritage Festival and officially handed over to future users by Mayor Michael Stötzer.

Preparatory work for the construction of three leisure areas at the Klaffenbach moated castle as public spaces began back in April 2024. The Klaffenbach district had opted for these as part of the public participation process for the intervention areas for the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. The aim was to further enhance the surroundings of the moated castle.

The measure was divided into three areas: The playground was extended, exercise stations were set up in the Tiergarten forest to the south of the moated castle and the Kulturpark was redesigned. The playground and the exercise equipment were opened in June 2024.

The paths in the culture park were renovated and a covered seating area was built, which will function as a "green classroom" in future. From there, it is now possible to discover nature. For this purpose, additional objects for species conservation such as an insect hotel, a deadwood window and two dry habitats were built.

Play and leisure centre

A nest swing, a sand play area and a toddler slide were added to the playground.

The neighbouring Tiergarten forest to the south will be enhanced with nine different elements. Sports facilities such as hanging, jumping and balancing are intended to promote fitness for young and old.

The work was carried out by the construction company Fachcenter Garten+ STL-Bau GmbH. Construction supervision was carried out by the sLandArt office. The construction costs totalled around 255,000 euros plus planning costs. The project was financed by federal and state Capital of Culture funds.
