The public square for Kleinolbersdorf-Altenhain is an approx. 10 km long themed circular hiking trail around the village of Kleinolbersdorf-Altenhain. Ten stations along the Lohse-Ulig-Steig provide information about the area and its history, as well as insights into natural areas and industrial history. In addition, the important namesakes of the circular trail and their work are presented, as well as offers to linger and leisure activities.

Circular hiking trail invites you to discover

On 14 June, Mayor Michael Stötzer officially opened the Lohse-Uhlig-Steig circular hiking trail at the Kleinolbersdorf leisure park. The circular hiking trail was selected as a joint project by the citizens of Kleinolbersdorf-Altenhain as an intervention area for the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. The aim was to combine nature, history and community and offer local people and visitors a platform for exercise, recreation and education. It should not only encourage exercise and recreation, but also promote identification with the local area.

The "Lohse-Uhlig-Steig" project was initiated by the Kleinolbersdorf-Altenhain citizens' association and was driven forward with exemplary civic commitment. The results of several resident surveys were incorporated into the planning. An imaginative and energetic "Capital of Culture 2025" working group was formed from within the association and in September 2022, one station of the hiking trail was financed and realised thanks to the successful participation in the NimmPlatz! competition. The signposting of the hiking trail also progressed steadily thereafter.

Stations along the way

An important stop along the way is the leisure centre in the heart of Kleinolbersdorf. A wide range of options are available here: Whether it's ball games such as basketball, volleyball or floorball - the pitch is ideally equipped for sporting activities. Right next to it, at the entrance to the forest, a new hiker's hut has been built.

In addition, a weather mushroom with seating and information boards along the path on Äppelallee invites visitors to linger and relax. From the weather mushroom above Kleinolbersdorf, the view opens up far into the countryside, including to Augustusburg Castle and the church of master builder Johann Traugott Lohse.
