The Küchwaldbühne is located next to the large meadow near the park railway in Küchwald. Planned in the 1950s by architect Roland Hühnerfürst, the Küchwaldbühne was built by citizens themselves - without a backstage for cost reasons. The Küchwaldbühne was opened in the summer of 1963 for the Workers' Festival. It offered 4500 seats for cinema, concerts and theatre performances.

After the Küchwaldbühne was closed in 1991 due to structural defects, the "Verein zur Förderung der Küchwaldbühne e.V." was founded 18 years later in 2009. This association took on the listed complex and was able to revitalise the Küchwaldbühne in 2010 with the play "MOMO", based on the novel by Michael Ende. The association's theatre group, which already had 50 actors in 2010, already had 130 active members in 2011.

For some years now, a large number of its own plays have been performed in the summer months, as well as guest performances by the Chemnitz Municipal Theatre and other organisers.
