Green spaces

Chemnitz city green concept - green maintenance concept
The public green spaces in the city of Chemnitz offer space for recreation and leisure activities. They are used for sporting activities and are a meeting place for many events and private appointments. Chemnitz has an extensive green system that has been deliberately developed over the past 100 years and is characterised in particular by the Küchwaldpark, the Schlossteichanlagen and the Stadtpark.
The City of Chemnitz's Parks Department has now drawn up a maintenance and development concept for the city's green spaces, which sets out the urban planning objectives for the further development of the city's green spaces and the necessary maintenance measures, capacities and obligations.
The maintenance and development concept for urban greenery was approved by a majority of the city council on 16 December 2009.

Green maintenance: maintenance contracts for volunteers
In future, the City of Chemnitz will support the voluntary commitment of its citizens to the city's green spaces. This voluntary and unpaid work is to be secured through maintenance contracts. The city administration will also ensure compliance with accident prevention regulations.
The volunteers are covered by statutory accident insurance, and there is also the option of insuring any liability claims through the city's insurance. "We would be delighted if citizens would support us with care sponsorships from the spring," says Mayor Miko Runkel, hoping for many volunteers.
Thanks to helping citizens
