"Jutta Müller Ice Sports Centre" at Küchwald
Ice skating is one of the most popular leisure activities in winter: At the Chemnitz Ice Sports Centre at Küchwald, there are two artificial ice rinks with over 7400 m³ available in the ice rink and on the 400-metre speed skating track.
On 9 March 2024, the ice sports centre in Küchwald was officially renamed the "Jutta Müller Ice Sports Centre".
On the occasion of the memorial event for the honorary citizen of Chemnitz, who died on 2 November 2023. The new nameplate, which stands in front of the ice sports centre (at the entrance to Leipziger Straße), was unveiled by Lord Mayor Sven Schulze, Katarina Witt, Gabriele Seyfert and the Managing Director of EFC GmbH, Sascha Brandt, at the memorial event for the honorary citizen of the city of Chemnitz, who died on 2 November 2023.
This was followed by an emotional and dignified ice show in the ice rink, organised by the Chemnitzer Eislauf-Club e. V. (CEC).
Speed skating oval reopened
The renovated speed skating rink was officially opened on 24 October 2021, replacing the 50-year-old sports facility with a new one that is suitable for competitions. The ice oval was also given an additional indoor surface. This can be used as an ice hockey rink in winter and as a roller hockey rink in summer.
Contrary to the original plans, the roof of the facility had to be cancelled for the time being. This was due to the city's worsening budget situation as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. However, the conditions for a subsequent construction were created.
Ice age from October to March
The ice rink opens its doors at the beginning of October until mid-March and guests can do their laps in the open air on the speed skating rink from mid-October to the beginning of March.
Curling can also be organised with groups by appointment. Children can learn to ice skate in taster courses. They can attend numerous figure skating, speed skating and ice hockey events or get involved in the clubs themselves.
As a highlight in the run-up to Christmas, the Chemnitz Ice Fairy Tale is presented every year. This turns ice skating fun into a real winter experience.
