What to do when a relative dies?

All deaths that occur in Chemnitz are notarised by the Chemnitz registry office.

The death must be reported no later than the third working day following the death. Saturday does not count as a working day in this case.

The prerequisite is that a post-mortem examination has been carried out by a doctor and a death certificate has been issued.

When notarising a death, the registry office informs the probate court, the tax office, the municipality of residence and the birth registry office of the deceased. It makes the entry in the death register and issues death certificates.

Municipal cemetery and municipal funeral parlour

When a bereavement occurs, relatives are often left with a feeling of inner emptiness and helplessness. The local funeral parlour helps the bereaved on the difficult journey to the day of the funeral.

The municipal cemeteries in Chemnitz are not only a place of final rest and mourning, but also a place of hope, reverence and dignified silence. They are a place of historical significance and at the same time a place of life and encounter. Thanks to their abundance of flowers, trees and plants, the Chemnitz municipal cemeteries are among the most beautiful green spaces in the city of Chemnitz.

Notes on the deceased animal

For many people, the loss of a pet is also a painful experience. Animals are regarded as family members and also deserve a dignified farewell. At the Chemnitz pet cemetery, beloved pets find a dignified resting place.
