Green spaces
The public green spaces in the city of Chemnitz offer space for recreation and leisure activities. They are used for sporting activities and are a meeting place for many events and private appointments. Chemnitz has an extensive green system that has been deliberately developed over the past 100 years and is characterised in particular by the Küchwaldpark, the Schlossteichanlagen and the Stadtpark.

Forest
The urban area of Chemnitz comprises a total forest area of around 3280 ha. Of this, approx. 1840 ha are state forest (state enterprise Sachsenforst), approx. 860 ha are communal forest and approx. 580 ha are forest of other ownership types.The Chemnitz Lower Forestry Authority performs a wide range of tasks in the area of private and corporate forests. The Chemnitz municipal forest covers a forest area of approx. 1,400 ha.

Allotment gardens
In addition to the parks and forests, the city of Chemnitz offers its inhabitants 17,450 allotment gardens for leisure and recreation. Compared to other green spaces, allotment gardens have a high individual design potential.

"My tree for Chemnitz"
Chemnitz residents can do something for our city greenery, be it by adopting trees or by looking after street trees in front of their homes. Through the "My tree for Chemnitz" fundraising campaign, you can also contribute to the costs of tree planting.
