Chemnitz City Library

In the Chemnitz City Library, users have access to 330,000 current media and 167,000 volumes of historical literature. With the development of communication technology, the library's tasks are changing. Although books have always characterised the city library and the promotion of reading is one of its most important tasks, electronic information services are becoming increasingly important.

The central library, the district, branch and children's libraries, the Wittgensdorf, Röhrsdorf and Klaffenbach circulation desks and the book bus offer a wide range of multimedia resources. The city library's media collection includes books, newspapers, magazines, DVDs, CDs and digital media for online borrowing. Users have access to the Internet at terminals and workstations in the library.

The library regularly organises readings, discussions and exhibitions. By prior arrangement, library staff are happy to show school classes and groups how to use the library. The library team advises users on the selection and borrowing of media and supports them in their research.
