Until 23 July, the city administration conducted a survey on various environmental issues in Chemnitz for the first time. All residents of Chemnitz were invited to take part.

The aim was to find out what Chemnitz residents think about environmental issues - green spaces and water, nature conservation, environmental education, climate change and renewable energies. The aim is for residents to feel comfortable in their city and find healthy living conditions. The environment is crucial to this.

Among other things, the following questions should be answered:

What is the importance of green spaces in the city? How are they accessible and how are they used? What role do climate protection and climate adaptation measures play? What is the attitude towards expanding the use of electricity from renewable energies? What is the personal commitment to nature conservation or how are the city's environmental education programmes used by adults and children?

The survey was analysed anonymously and the rapid evaluation is now available:

The city administration will use the results to assess the success of previous measures, but will also derive specific goals for the various topics.

For example, the city of Chemnitz is currently developing the "Urban Nature" masterplan as an overarching concept to safeguard and develop the green - green spaces, parks, gardens - and blue - rivers, streams, ponds - infrastructure. The integrated climate protection programme is also being updated. The survey results are to be incorporated into this programme and into further planning.

Representative survey

Parallel to this freely accessible survey, 5,000 citizens aged 18 and over were randomly selected from the population register for a representative survey. They took part in the survey via a different link and a personal access code. Both surveys contained the same questionnaire.
