Youth survey of the city of Chemnitz

Youth survey 2023 analysed

Auswertung der Jugendumfrage 2023

On 7 November 2023, the City of Chemnitz published the results of a youth survey from the spring.

In this survey, the city wanted to find out what young people think of Chemnitz as a place to live, where they see strengths and weaknesses and what they need to be able and want to continue living and working in Chemnitz.

According to Lord Mayor Sven Schulze, around 1,800 of the 6,000 young people between the ages of 16 and 19 who responded to the survey took part. The responses were as varied as they were interesting. It became clear that 22 per cent of those surveyed are actually planning to stay in Chemnitz. When asked what they thought was necessary for young people to stay in Chemnitz or return here after their training, the vast majority said "work and study", followed by "culture and events" and "leisure activities".

The questions and answers from the youth survey are summarised in detail in the results report.

Lord Mayor Sven Schulze met with around 50 young people from Chemnitz on Wednesday, 20 December 2023. In the library of Chemnitz University of Technology, the Lord Mayor and the 16 to 19-year-olds talked about the issues that concern young people. The reason for the meeting was the city's youth survey, which was published in autumn.

The Lord Mayor wanted to find out how and why young people voted in favour of or against staying in Chemnitz and what the city can do to become more attractive to young people. Several discussion groups focussed on topics such as additional leisure activities and the lack of study and training opportunities.

Lord Mayor Sven Schulze presents the results of the youth meeting

Lord Mayor Sven Schulze presented the results of the 1st Chemnitz Youth Meeting on 26 January 2024.

"It was a very informative exchange. The young people were very engaged and contributed well. We realised that the young people really had a lot to say and were walking through their city with open eyes. In addition to various aspects that the young people appreciate in Chemnitz, such as the red benches, planters, events such as the Hat Festival and the Park Summer, as well as democracy projects, there were also topics where they would like to see improvements," said Lord Mayor Sven Schulze.
