The birth of a child marks the beginning of a completely new phase of life, which brings with it many changes for those involved.

Before things really get going, the parents-to-be are spoilt for choice when looking for a suitable first name. The registry office also provides advice on this, as not every first name is permitted.

Show birth

Unfortunately, such a beautiful event also involves a few bureaucratic steps. The birth must be registered at the registry office.

All births that take place in Chemnitz are notarised by the Chemnitz registry office. If the child is born in hospital, the hospital automatically registers the birth with the registry office. If the child is born at home or in a birthing centre, the birth must be reported to the registry office within one week by notifying the midwife.

Healthy development right from the start

Healthy development begins during pregnancy. The guidebook "... I'm expecting a child" informs, advises, accompanies and supports you right up to the birth.

The Youth Welfare Office provides information on services for babies and their parents, financial support and offers of help.

The baby health guide gives young parents valuable tips on healthy sleep, check-ups and baby menus.

Chemnitz makes it easy

Relief for parents after the birth

Young parents in Chemnitz can now avoid travelling from authority to authority. They can obtain family benefits after the birth with just one form.

Child benefit, the second maternity benefit payment and the family pass can be easily applied for at the Chemnitz clinics and the Chemnitz Birth Centre.

This makes Chemnitz a nationwide pioneer and the second city after Hamburg to simplify the application process.
