Chemnitz is on friendly terms with twelve twin cities. While Usti nad Labem (Czech Republic) can be reached within 90 minutes by car, Taiyuan (People's Republic of China) and Akron (USA) are almost 8,000 kilometres away from Chemnitz. Regardless of the geographical location, large or small distances and different cultures, every partnership is a great enrichment for Chemnitz.

To mark the 75th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the organisation Mayors for Peace has produced a joint video with the slogan "No more Hiroshima! No more Nagasaki!" with messages from all over the world.

The video is intended to enable participation for all those who are unable to travel to Japan in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Background:

The organisation "Mayors for Peace" was founded in 1982 by the mayor of Hiroshima. Based on the fundamental idea that mayors are responsible for the safety and lives of their citizens, the organisation Mayors for Peace tries to prevent the worldwide spread of nuclear weapons and to achieve their abolition through actions and campaigns.
