Forest

The urban area of Chemnitz comprises a total forest area of around 3280 ha. Of this, approx. 1840 ha are state forest (state enterprise Sachsenforst), approx. 860 ha are communal forest and approx. 580 ha are forest of other ownership types.

Lower Forestry Authority

The Chemnitz Lower Forestry Authority is responsible for a wide range of tasks in the area of private and corporate forests. It is responsible for enforcing the Saxon Forest Act.

This includes the determination of forest status and the demarcation of forest areas as well as authorisation procedures in accordance with the Saxon Forest Act. It punishes administrative offences in connection with forests and monitors the proper management of the forest by private and corporate forest owners.

Municipal forest

The municipal forest of Chemnitz covers a forest area of approx. 1,400 ha. The larger part of the municipal forest, approx. 860 ha, belongs to the municipal forest district "Zeisigwald" in the city area of Chemnitz and the surrounding area.

Outside the city area in the central Erzgebirgskreis district are the forest areas of the "Saidenbach" communal forest district, which comprises approx. 550 ha of forest.
