School authorities City of Chemnitz

The City of Chemnitz, as the school authority, is responsible for external school matters, in particular for

  • medium and long-term school network planning
  • school building construction, maintenance and management,
  • equipping the school buildings,
  • the provision of teaching and learning materials,
  • the definition of primary school districts,
  • the provision of municipal staff for the schools,
  • the establishment, modification and cancellation of schools,
  • school transport and school transport safety and
  • the naming of schools.

Information for parents

In September of each year, authorised persons register their children for the primary school year beginning the following year at the desired municipal primary school in the school district or the desired independent primary school.

Parents decide whether to transfer from the primary school to a secondary general school on the recommendation of the school.
