Chemnitz Crime Prevention Council

On the initiative of the City Council on 4 February 1998, the City of Chemnitz established a Crime Prevention Council (KPR). It consists of the Mayor for Law, Safety and the Environment, the Head of the Police Department, the Mayor for Social Affairs, Youth and Family, Health, Culture and Sport and the Head of the Public Prosecutor's Office.
The Prevention Council meets under the chairmanship of the Head of the Legal, Safety and Environment Department. The Prevention Council consults authorities and other institutions on specific topics in an advisory capacity. The business of the Crime Prevention Council is handled by a secretariat, which is part of the Legal, Security and Environmental Protection Department. The office is headed by Ines Vorsatz.
Seven working groups are currently active within the Crime Prevention Council. The focus is on violence in public spaces and child and youth crime. Consultations and specialist events are organised with cooperation partners.
The format "Finding orientation in times of crisis - ways out of escalating situations in social spaces" will be continued. The date of the next specialist event will be announced soon.

The Crime Prevention Council has been organising a series of conferences for professionals since 2018. Under the title "Finding orientation in times of crisis - ways out of escalating situations in the social space", formats for professionals are developed annually together with cooperation partners, which are in very high demand.
The last conference took place on 28 November 2024 on the topic of "Using connectedness as an opportunity".

Priorities of the KPR

The Prevention Council has the task of developing effective approaches to the prevention and avoidance of criminal offences. Based on previous findings, exemplary subject areas are identified which are analysed for crime prevention solutions and possible courses of action:
