Cultural promotion 2022

4 million euros approved for independent culture

At the meeting of the Culture Committee on 10 February 2022, the Culture Committee approved a large funding package for 95 measures and projects, associations and individual artists in all areas of independent culture. In doing so, it followed the recommendations of the Cultural Advisory Board in full, which closely monitored the decision proposal in dialogue with the cultural institutions and in cooperation with the cultural sector.

The funding will flow into the areas of museum work, performing arts, music, visual and applied arts, film/media, literature, cultural and communication centres, socioculture, local history and youth culture. A total of 56 projects are supported and 38 organisations receive institutional funding from the City of Chemnitz.

Citizens can look forward to a wide range of popular, but also new public programmes across the city district and into the cultural region. These include basic cultural offerings such as Kraftwerk e. V., Deutsches SPIELEmuseum e. V., Schauplatz Eisenbahn in Hilbersdorf, Küchwaldbühne e. V., Chemnitzer Filmwerkstatt e. V., Bandbüro Chemnitz e. V., and the Chemnitz Film Festival, Bandbüro Chemnitz e. V., Schnitzverein Grüna e. V. with the Folklorehof and events organised by music and literary associations are just as much a focus as high-profile festivals. These include the "Saxon Mozart Festival", the international film festival for children and young people "Schlingel" and the festival TANZ/MODERNE/TANZ as well as the art projects "BEGEHUNGEN" by the association of the same name and "Dialogfelder" by Klub Solitaer e. V..

Many projects in all disciplines that enrich the Chemnitz cultural calendar are supported, such as the "Grenzüberschreitungen" (Crossing Borders) organised by Jazzclub Fuchs e. V., the "International Marianne Brandt Competition", the "Themed Cinema on the Sonnenberg" and the "Hang zur Kultur", the "FabLab Chemnitz", the "Days of Jewish Culture", the event seriesdischen Kultur", the event series "Frauenliteratur- Literaturfrauen", the "Staunt-Festival" and the "Große Kunst in kleinem Ort" in Wittgensdorf. The rich spectrum is complemented by a series of interesting musical events, such as the "Chemnitz Organ Walk" and the "Sounding Places of Remembrance" project. Highlights include the state competition "Jugend musiziert" in March and April and the "Chorfest Chemnitz" from 1 to 3 July.

There will also be special opportunities in the areas of artists in residence and literature, which the Cultural Advisory Board and the cultural organisation will be calling for separately. In addition, there will be even more support for independent organisations when applying for investment funds to obtain the necessary equity share.

The Culture Committee gave the go-ahead for the renewed small project funding programme by approving the creation of a reserve fund for the second year in a row. From 1 March until 15 November 2022, applications for small project funding of up to 2,000 euros can be submitted on the service portal of the Free State of Saxony Office 24. The application process is completely digital and therefore a tool for uncomplicated project funding, especially for the realisation of spontaneous ideas.

In addition to the regular cultural funding budget, the large amount of the budget for the promotion of independent culture is made possible by increased allocations from the Free State of Saxony, a special resolution by the City Council on the recommendation of the Cultural Advisory Board for the 2021/2022 budget and transferred budget expenditure.budget expenditure carryovers from 2021, which were left over in particular due to the situation of independent culture during the coronavirus pandemic.

All information on funded measures can be found in the City of Chemnitz's council information system. Funding for art and culture is provided on the basis of the valid guidelines of the City of Chemnitz for the granting of grants in the field of art and culture.

Support for independent cultural organisations creates the conditions for enabling cultural projects and cultural infrastructure to complement municipal measures.
