Prevention comprises targeted measures and activities aimed at avoiding illness or damage to health, reducing the risk of illness or delaying its occurrence.
Preventive measures are categorised into universal, selective and indicated prevention.
Preventive measures can focus on individual behaviour (behavioural prevention) or living conditions (situational prevention).
The Office for Health and Prevention supports the citizens of Chemnitz with various preventive programmes.

Life skills daycare centre
The "FREUNDE" project is a training programme for educational staff in day-care centres with the aim of comprehensively strengthening children's life skills from an early age.

"Klasse 2000" is a teaching programme for health promotion, addiction and violence prevention. Specially trained health promoters bring current topics directly into primary schools.

IPSY is an advanced training course for addiction prevention specialists in secondary schools in grades 5-7. Teachers and school social workers carry out the programme over 3 years.
