Art in architecture competition
Competition 2022
On 5 January 2023, the winning design for the "Kunst am Bau - Kooperationsschule Chemnitz" competition was selected by a jury of experts. The winner was the "Glass Balloon" design by Nina Schuiki from Berlin.
Due to the lower demand for school buildings for the Chemnitz school network, the construction of a new school was postponed and the Chemnitz City Council decided to locate the co-operation school in an existing school building. The realisation of the winning design in the existing building in question is currently being examined.
Competition 2019/2020
On 10 July 2020, the winning design for the competition "Kunst am Bau" - Oberschule am Hartmannplatz was announced. The winning design was "Birkenhain/Festwiese" by Antje Schiffers and Thomas Sprenger from Berlin.
The central break hall, which will also serve as the school's auditorium, will be designed in a special way at the future four-form entry secondary school on Hartmannplatz, which is due to open at the beginning of 2023. A two-stage "Art in Architecture" competition was organised for this purpose. Initially, artists and designers were able to apply to take part. From the 281 submissions from many countries, a jury selected ten applicants who were asked to present their ideas in the form of concrete projects.
