Migration Officer

The migration officer informs and advises foreign residents, in particular on problems specific to foreigners, receives concerns and questions and clarifies these with the involvement of the relevant authorities.

Targeted projects are designed to make integration easier for migrants, provide guidance and promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence in the city in the long term.
The Migration Officer advises and supports specialised departments on issues relating to foreigners. She works closely with private organisations and migration initiatives as well as with state and federal representatives.

The Migration Officer is responsible for organising the annual Intercultural Weeks. Readings, lectures, film screenings and concerts are organised for a fortnight at the end of September and beginning of October.

Migration Advisory Board

With the Migration Advisory Council, founded in 2002 as the Foreigners' Advisory Council, people of international origin in Chemnitz have a body appointed by the City Council to represent their interests. The council is committed to equal opportunities in all areas of life and to tolerant coexistence.

All city projects that affect people of international origin are submitted to the Migration Advisory Council before a decision is made. A representative of the council has the right to be heard and to speak in all matters that affect people of international origin.

The City of Chemnitz Migration Advisory Board is made up of five members of the City Council and eight expert residents of various nationalities. They draw their expertise from their work in the independent welfare sector, as part of the Chemnitz Integration Network or as representatives of nationality associations and similar organisations and, of course, from their own migration background.
