With the urban development framework plan, the site of the former Altendorf goods station is moving away from its previous location on the edge of the city centre and, with its interesting landscape elements, offers the opportunity for an urban development interface between the sub-areas of Altendorf and Kaßberg.

The structural concept adopted by the city council in April 2018 for the revitalisation of the Altchemnitz industrial site offers an interdisciplinary approach to the design, development and use of the former industrial site. The urban development concept sees the design of city entrance areas, main access roads and arterial roads as an important goal for the development of the city. The Zwickauer Straße arterial road is to be prioritised.
