Sonnenberg

Framework plan for the northern Sonnenberg
The reactivation of the unused residential and commercial buildings and the integration and development of the remodelled CFC stadium in a way that is compatible with the city are important components of the urban planning requirements for upgrading the northern Sonnenberg, which is currently impaired in its function. The question is how to stabilise the urban living and working environment close to the city centre, main railway station and Zeisigwald forest, develop new open spaces and find attractive prospects for business and retail.
A framework plan was therefore drawn up and adopted by the city council on 17 December 2014. The urban development framework plan is intended to define the development and design objectives for the northern Sonnenberg urban area in sufficient detail to provide the City of Chemnitz with guidelines for future decisions on specific urban land-use planning, construction measures and funding programmes in the period up to 2030 following a decision by the City Council in a fundamental commitment.

Citizens' forum on the framework plan
Citizens were invited to a final public forum with an open discussion on the prospects for urban development in the northern Sonnenberg district of Chemnitz on 23 July 2014 in the Philippstraße 20 school building. The citizens' forum in the Sonnenberg district was organised by the City of Chemnitz building department together with the planning company urban management systems GmbH from Leipzig. The forum discussed the new planning status, which incorporated suggestions from the local community.
