Vehicles may only be put into operation on public roads if they are authorised for traffic.
Licence plate
Each vehicle is allocated a licence plate number when it is registered. There is no legal entitlement to a specific combination of letters and numbers. It is possible to reserve a preferred licence plate number for a period of 6 months at the vehicle registration authority.
The vehicle registration authority offers the service of reserving a licence plate online. This reservation is valid for 6 months.

Registration certificate part I
The registration certificate part I documents the registration for traffic and is the main legitimisation document for traffic checks. It contains the details of the vehicle owner and the most important technical data of the vehicle.
Registration certificate part II
The registration certificate part II serves to secure ownership of the vehicle and as proof of authorisation to dispose of the vehicle in the registration procedure.
