As people get older, their everyday activities become more focussed on their home and living environment. The home becomes the centre of life.

Under certain circumstances, an accident or illness can suddenly lead to a change in personal lifestyle. There is then no time to plan your retirement in peace and quiet. It is therefore important to think about this in good time - also to relieve the burden on your relatives.

The Care Coordination Centre is the point of contact for questions relating to housing and advises on the options for adapting living space.

If a move is necessary, there is a growing range of housing options for older people in Chemnitz to choose from.

Assisted living

If you are looking for "all-round care" or assume that a carer will always be on site, you are in the wrong place. Instead, assisted living residences offer a low-barrier flat and environment due to the structural conditions. When moving in, a separate care contract is concluded in addition to the tenancy agreement, with which additional services are agreed. These include, for example, a home emergency call, minor handyman services, the use of events, care and housekeeping services, escort and transport services, etc.

Service living

Serviced living can be compared with assisted living. However, the average age of residents in serviced living facilities is usually somewhat lower. Sometimes even older people who are about to retire live there. The concept was adapted by the operators of the residential complex to meet the needs of the tenants. Accordingly, it is possible to conclude a separate care contract - as with assisted living - but this is not mandatory when moving in. Such a contract is only concluded when required.

Living with a concierge

Living with a concierge offers senior citizens in particular the opportunity to take advantage of a little assistance in their everyday lives if required. The concierge service is offered by the landlord, who usually sets up a reception desk in large building complexes. The resident concierge (caretaker, doorman) provides various services on request. The concierge is the contact person and conveys a feeling of safety and security in the otherwise anonymous buildings.

Other senior living

In Chemnitz, the category "Other senior living" includes all those facilities that cannot be clearly categorised as either assisted living, serviced living or living with a concierge. They are often a combination of all of these.

The flats are often barrier-free and care is provided by a care service or a social worker who is based directly in the building in individual cases.
