The fairy tale "The Silent Princess from the Castle Pond" by René B. Werner is the title story of the fourth Chemnitz fairy tale book and thus the winner of this year's writing competition "Your Chemnitz. Your fairy tale". For the fourth time, the city of Chemnitz called on creative writers to write down and submit fairytale stories.

A jury selected the three best stories from the numerous submissions.

The book "Die stumme Prinzessin aus dem Schloßteich" is the fourth fairytale book published by the City of Chemnitz. It is published by Claus-Verlag from Limbach-Oberfrohna. It will be available in bookshops and online from 16 December. Pre-orders are already possible from now on.

In the title story "The silent princess from the castle pond" by René B. Werner, there is not only the castle pond in Chemnitz in old, fairytale times, but also a castle. There even lives a princess who is to become queen - but the witch Rubinia doesn't like that at all. So she first makes the castle spire disappear and then the princess too. Will the princess manage to ascend the throne?

In "Conny and the Carillon" by Sandra Heymann, a little girl has to deal with the nasty Grütznickel and a dragon. The fairy tale took second place in this year's competition.

Marcus Lehmann secured third place with his fairy tale "Artur and the Secret of the Garage". The fairy tale, which is related to the European Capital of Culture 2025, is about the beauty in the hidden and the courage it sometimes takes to be yourself.

This year's fairy tales were illustrated by Saara Vallineva. She was born in 1982 in Vantaa, Finland, and works as an illustrator, author and visual artist in Chemnitz's twin city Tampere. Saara Vallineva applied for the illustrations for the fourth Chemnitz fairytale book following a call for entries in Chemnitz's twin cities.

The fourth Chemnitz Fairytale Book marks the end of the project "Your Chemnitz. Your fairy tale."

It will go on sale in bookshops and online shops on 16 December 2024.
