NUMIC - new urban mobility awareness in Chemnitz
NUMIC stands for New Urban Mobility Consciousness in Chemnitz. Under this title, the City of Chemnitz is conducting research together with project partners from business and science, with the City of Chemnitz coordinating the joint project. The integrated research and development approach of NUMIC aims to improve the quality of life of Chemnitz residents through attractive and sustainable mobility solutions.
The research now extends over two phases. The first project in the years 2019 to 2022 developed the NUMICO model route for cycling and walking together with citizens. The follow-up project NUMIC 2.0 started in December 2022 and focuses on the impact of participation.
About the NUMIC 1.0 project
In the NUMIC project, citizens worked together with the city administration and scientists to plan their future route for cycling and walking between 2019 and 2022.

Realisation NUMIC 1.0
In order to achieve the goals of sustainable mobility development, the first step was to find a model route for pedestrian and cycle traffic away from the busy main roads.

Once the model route had been determined, deficiencies and potential improvements were identified along this route in order to make cycling and walking on this route not only safer but also more attractive.

Results NUMIC 1.0
Three years of NUMIC and one year of the NUMICO model route real-world laboratory - the research project of the City of Chemnitz and Chemnitz University of Technology with joint partners has produced some internal findings and many public results.

NUMIC 2.0
The NUMIC 2.0 project - New Urban Mobility Awareness in Chemnitz - is researching citizen participation in transport planning. Improved participation promises a new exchange between citizens and administration in planning and increases sustainable mobility awareness.
