Residence

The main residence (the main home) is the home that is predominantly used. Every other dwelling in Germany is a secondary residence, also known as a second home.

You can register, de-register or re-register your residence at any Citizens' Service Centre of the City of Chemnitz.

Space for the removal van

If you are moving house and need parking space with the removal van directly in front of your old or new home, you may not block off the road during loading and unloading without authorisation.

You can apply for a no-stopping zone for the duration of your move, which will allow you to load and unload conveniently in front of your old and new homes.

Further help on the subject of housing

The City of Chemnitz Social Welfare Office supports its citizens in their search for new housing. Housing counselling includes detailed and individual advice on offers in various forms of housing. The Social Welfare Office is also the right contact for you when it comes to housing benefit.

Registration certificate

The registration or residence certificate is a certificate from the population register about your own personal and registration data and contains details of your surname, first name, date of birth, place of birth, maiden name and current addresses.

Second home tax

If you have a secondary residence in the city area, the city of Chemnitz levies a secondary residence tax. A dwelling is considered a secondary residence if the resident has it as a secondary residence in addition to their main residence for their own personal living needs or the personal living needs of family members in the city of Chemnitz.
