Professional fire brigade

The fire brigade of the city of Chemnitz includes

  • the professional fire brigade,
  • the volunteer fire brigades
  • the emergency medical aid and rescue services,
  • civil defence and disaster control.

Tasks according to the Saxon Fire Protection, Rescue Service and Disaster Control Act (BRKG) are

  • The defence against fire hazards in accordance with the specifications of the fire protection requirements plan (defensive fire protection),
  • providing technical assistance in the fight against disasters as part of the rescue service and in the removal of environmental hazards
  • carrying out fire prevention inspections in and on properties, buildings, facilities and installations with an increased risk of fire and explosion as well as forest areas.

In addition, the professional fire brigade, together with the German Red Cross and the Workers' Samaritan Federation, provides emergency rescue and ambulance services in the city of Chemnitz. The rescue service is organised by the Chemnitz/Erzgebirge rescue association.

The tasks of civil defence and disaster control include the supervision of disaster control units, cooperation with other departments, authorities and offices, preparatory planning for major emergencies and civil defence tasks.

Emergency fax

The emergency fax is intended to help citizens with hearing and/or speech impairments in an emergency.

In an emergency, simply fill out the form and fax it to the control centre.

Volunteer fire brigade

The first volunteer fire brigade was founded in Chemnitz back in 1854. There are now 15 district fire brigades, which are located around the city centre.

Preventive fire protection

Relatively simple methods can be used to prevent fires and avoid personal injury in the event of an emergency. This includes minimising the risk of fire and taking precautions in the event of a fire. The fire brigade provides regular information and carries out fire prevention inspections of properties and facilities.
