Preventive fire protection

Minimise the risk of fire

Fires can be prevented with relatively simple means by combating their causes:

Defective electrical appliances:

  • Only use working electrical appliances with intact cables.
  • Only have defective appliances repaired by a specialist.
  • Only use electrical appliances with VDE labelling.
  • Never leave electrical appliances that can overheat unattended.
  • If flames appear on an appliance, unplug it immediately!

Burning candles and cigarettes:

  • Never leave burning candles unattended!
  • Always stub out cigarettes thoroughly!
  • Do not smoke in bed!

Curious children:

  • Do not leave your children unattended.
  • Familiarise your children with the subject of fire. Point out the dangers of fire, but also show them how to handle fire properly!

Cooking, frying, baking:

  • Never leave a switched-on cooker unattended!
  • Always smother burning fat with a pan or pot lid!
  • Change filters in extractor bonnets regularly.

Smoke alarms save lives!

A smoke alarm provides an early warning of smoke gas development with a loud, audible alarm signal and thus saves lives. On the website of Forum Brandrauchprävention e. V. you will find relevant and up-to-date information on legal regulations, owners' responsibilities and professional installation and maintenance.

Prevention in the event of a fire

Cellar doors and doors to attics must always be kept closed.

No objects or fire loads may be stored or deposited in escape routes such as corridors and stairwells, as these favour the spread of smoke and fire in the event of a fire and also significantly impair escape and rescue.

Always keep fire service access routes clear!

Fire service access routes must always be kept clear to allow the emergency services unhindered access in the event of an emergency. Anyone who parks their car or another motor vehicle in front of or in the area of a so-called fire service access road must expect a corresponding fine and possibly even further consequences.

Fire alarm systems

Fire alarm systems (FAS) with a connection to a control centre are used as part of the fire protection concept for buildings to localise the danger zone in the event of a fire breaking out and to alert the fire brigade directly.
